NHS England has published the findings of an into the care and treatment that was provided to Valdo Calocane prior to the tragic events that took place in Nottingham in June 2023.
Responding to the review, Dr Lade Smith CBE, President of the 免费黑料网, said:
“Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies remain with the bereaved families and all those who have been affected by the tragic incident that took place in Nottingham in June 2023.
“Today’s independent mental health homicide report is a wake-up call for the UK government. The report makes it clear that systemic change is needed to ensure services can proactively engage with people with severe mental illness and psychosis.
“Evidence suggests that patients who receive continuous care from the same psychiatrist and mental health team – both in hospital and in their local community - engage better with services and therefore have better outcomes and are less likely to relapse. Continuity of care can also help reduce risk when people become very unwell.
“The system is struggling to provide this type of care because of chronic under resourcing and staff shortages. It is inevitable that there will be repeated tragic events until we finally stop deprioritising the clinical needs of people with severe mental illness.
“The UK government’s proposals to create new mental health crisis centres goes some way to address the gaps in care but won’t necessarily help people with the most complex needs, who are already struggling to regularly engage with their local services. The ?26 million committed to this scheme falls short of the level of investment that is needed to deliver consistently safe and effective care across England.
“We also need additional staff skilled in providing care and treatment for those with severe mental illness, who understand the complexity of their needs, and what is required for safe management of their care.
“The UK government must grasp the opportunity within the 10 Year Health Plan to directly address the structural discrimination affecting people with severe mental illness and ensure all services are provided with the resources and funding they need to deliver safe and timely care.”
