Event Information
Event overview and programme
Psychosis and schizophrenia are complex mental health conditions that can be difficult to treat and that impact significantly on physical health, both as a result of the condition itself and because of the antipsychotic medications used to treat them. Whilst antipsychotic medication may treat positive symptoms effectively, negative symptoms can be more difficult to treat.
This conference will aim to provide a masterclass of current thinking on how to address some of the associated physical health complications in psychosis and schizophrenia, treatment of negative symptoms, and how to effectively manage extrapyramidal side effects. Finally, we will consider the new frontier of pharmacological treatment for psychosis and schizophrenia.
Poster competitions for medical students, foundation doctors, resident doctors, and SAS doctors
There are three categories, which will be dependent on the entrants taking part and will include:
- Best medical student/FY1-2 poster
- Best resident (core) poster
- Best resident (higher)/SAS doctor poster
Up to three first-place entrants, one from each category, will be selected to give a seven-minute presentation plus three minutes for questions at the North West Division Spring Conference 2025. Each winner will receive a ?100 prize and a certificate of merit.
The remaining entrants will be offered the chance to take part in the North West Division Poster Presentation Prize at the conference and a winner of each category will be selected on the day, each receiving a prize and a certificate of merit.
